How long should one row for?

I'm a huge fan of indoor rowing machines. As I find them both fun (far more so than treadmills and exercycles) and challenging. I have no idea how long I should row for though?

I've been told by my father than most people do 5 minutes on the machine although I like to do 10. Can anyone with experience clear this up for me? As a little more information I would normally do 20-30 minutes on the treadmill first.

Also how long do you personally row for?
There is no arbitrary number, it depends on the intensity of your rowing and your personal endurance levels. You could complete a high intensity workout in 5 minutes, or you could do a lower intensity session in an hour. My personal preference is to keep it short and intense.
