Track Your Indoor Rowing Across The Nile River

Hi all

I hope this is allowed 😃

I recently bought myself an indoor rower as a way to improve my fitness, and I've been really enjoying it. After a while though, I wanted something more motivating than just watching the kilometres add up (videos on Kinomap or YouTube are still fantastic to watch while I row).

As a software developer, I decided to build an iPhone app for myself that turns every rowing workout into a virtual expedition down the Nile River.

Each workout moves your boat further downstream from Lake Victoria all the way to the Mediterranean Sea (about 5,570 km). Along the way you unlock real landmarks, historical information, achievements, and can compare your progress on a leaderboard with other users. At the moment it is just me on the leaderboard 😅.

The app uses Apple Health workout data (water sports data only, or you can add workouts manually), has no ads, and is completely free.

It's not intended to replace apps like EXR, Kinomap, or similar training platforms—they serve a different purpose. I see Source to Sea as something that sits alongside your normal training, giving all those kilometres a long-term goal and a sense of progression.

It only launched recently, so if anyone would like to join me on the journey—and give me someone to race against on the leaderboard—I’d love to hear your feedback.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I am sure there are some good ideas out there.

Please feel free to join me: Source to Sea: The Nile
